The chiller is a complex system, whether it is a scroll chiller or screw chiller, an air-cooled chiller, or a water cooled chiller, but the basic components are a compressor, a condenser, a constant temperature expansion valve (TXV) and an evaporator. Starting from the compressor, the refrigerant coming from the evaporator is compressed from saturated gas to high-pressure high-temperature gas. The hot gas passes through the condenser, where it is cooled and condensed into a saturated liquid by dissipating heat into cooler ambient air (air-cooled condenser) or equipment water (water-cooled condenser). Then, when the refrigerant passes through the TXV, its pressure and temperature will drop significantly. Now, the temperature of the refrigerant is lower than the temperature of the process liquid, and as a result, heat is transferred from the process fluid to the refrigerant, causing it to evaporate into a low-pressure gas. As the gas flows back to the compressor, the cycle repeats again.The condenser and evaporator of an industrial chiller are heat exchangers that transfer heat from one medium to another. In the case of an air-cooled condenser, an aluminum finned copper tube air heat exchanger is used to remove heat from the hot refrigerant gas to the surrounding air. The water-cooled condenser uses a liquid-liquid heat exchanger to transfer heat from the hot refrigerant gas to the facility water.
